I was set to buy a car they had for sale that I had already seen and test-driven a few days prior. I called to schedule a time to bring it to my mechanic to take a quick look at it before I purchased it and was told by the person on the phone that he had to call over to their other location to make sure the car would be available at the time I had requested to do this. He said he would call me back as soon as he spoke with the other location. After waiting for 45 minutes for a call back I called again but there was no answer. I decided to take the 30 minute drive down to the shop where the car was hoping it would be available for me to take to my mechanic. The car was there but the mechanic working at that shop said he had spoken to his father (who I assume owns the business) and he said that I couldn't take the car to my mechanic and that they had been in business for 30 years and that if I didn't trust them then I shouldn't buy a car from them.
I said I didn't understand why they were taking it personally and were angry and that I didn't know much about cars and that everything I had read about buying a used car indicated that this was not an unusual or unfair request. He then said I could bring my mechanic to them and he could look at it there. I said I would think about it but that it didn't seem like a reasonable request for me to make of my mechanic who runs his own busy repair shop.
Great people with great service, don't know what Steven, is talking about, they let me have my mechanic come look at it and even test drive it. They even gave me a thirty day warranty bumper to bumper, honest place.I will be buying my next car from them as well.
I was ready to buy the car and I didn't want to cut my nose to spite my face by getting defensive about it so I considered still buying it but in the end I decided that the angry reaction at me "not trusting them" made no sense. It wasn't a matter of trusting or not trusting because I had never done business with them before and didn't have anything to go on. I simply wanted an impartial mechanic to give me his opinion before I went through with buying the car. Also, the fact that they didn't have the courtesy to call me back and tell me that they weren't going to let me take the car to my mechanic is not the way to do business. I don't know how many stars this corresponds to, and they have every right not to let me take the car to my mechanic but, as I said, based on what I have read about buying a used car this wasn't an unreasonable request on my part. Other than what I have described, the son and the other person I had dealt with when I test drove the car, Bruce, seemed like nice people but based on the above I decided not to buy the car.
